Tod’s Art Card Explosion!

Artist Trading Cards by Formidonis and Fenmere

My friend Tod is doing something he’s calling an Art Card Explosion!

Above are a couple of samples of art cards, of the quality that he’s producing. He and I are both cartoonists, so what we did with these cards is do the pencils then trade and ink and color each other’s work. The color one is his inking and coloring. In lieu of colors I put a massive number of little dots on mine. It was great fun! (and I desperately need to ink more of other people’s artwork)

Anyway, what he’s doing is producing a heck of a lot of art cards by the end of the weekend. (Tod corrects me — he’s accepting prompts through Saturday morning, and will spend as long as he needs to creating the art cards. He’s very good at keeping people updated and informed, too) You can go and give him prompts, and the more prompts he gets the more cards he’ll try to do (though he won’t use all the prompts). But also, you can give him tips. And, like a Kickstarter, the tips have incentive levels. Essentially, every time he makes another $100, he gives out free art cards to five randomly drawn people! Or something like that, you really should check it out and read the rules of his game.

When I last talked to him, he was very enthusiastic, nay, thrilled I dare say, about this project. Obviously, it is quite a bit of fun!

Seriously, you should check this out!

But back to inking other people’s work. I find it really interesting how my ink line quality compliments Tod’s sense of form and the shapes he uses. I really kind of want to ink a whole book of his. I think I’d give it back to him to color, though.

Also, this is an easy way to “Support the Arts”. Don’t have money but want to support the arts? Post a prompt on Tod’s Project, and idea for him to draw, and then share the link with your friends or family.

    This is The People’s art!
