Hi. I'm the cartoonist for Harmless Free Radicals. I've also done quite a variety of other graphic design jobs, such as layout and design of most of the Whatcom Independent for two and half years and the design for Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro's beer labels. I've also managed both those websites.

Right now, when I'm not cartooning, I'm doing things for random other people. People like you, maybe, who've come across my company's site from one of the many comics I've been working on. But I haven't been doing enough of this work, and I aim to do more.

The doodle to the right of this post is an idea for a series of buttons for the front page of my site. The idea was that I could encourage visitors to get excited about what my services could do for them. But then I realized that really, they're for me.

I'm in this weird business of helping business, and what that means is that before I can become successful at it (or rather, at doing it on my own rather than as a house designer - because I have been successful, very successful)... Before Grass Dog Studio can become successful at what it's meant to do, I have to take my own medicine.

I'll get back to you when it works. Or, maybe more accurately, you'll get in touch with me, eh?

In the mean time, I've got time to help. Give me a ring or an email, and we'll see what I can do for you: Illustration, ad design, labels, brochures, websites, logos...

Thoughts of improvement

I, Fenmere, the Worm, am out of a day job for a while.

This means that I have more time to devote to my comics. And while I have been steadily improving my work over the past couple of years, I find myself yearning to create something amazing.

But I don't know what.

I have several projects to work on while I search for more work. Who knows? Perhaps one of them will pick up steam and carry me in a new direction.

"I can draw better than this!" has a navigational calendar now, and I've been updating it more regularly.

The Dragon & the Radical has a sequel that's written and just waiting for the artwork.

And I have a comic totally unrelated to Harmless Free Radicals, called Par for the Core. No, the title is not a mistake.

Also, I managed to get a hold of baristawars.com, and I plan on doing something with that. I may solicit help from other cartoonists to finish it, though.

Then, I've got a set of illustrations I'd like to finish for a story I wrote in '97, called Walking Black Water: the Life of Ink.

And finally, I'm supposed to be working on a comic called Crash Crandell in the 21st Century! It was written by Colosus Productions of Bellingham.

This will be a lot of practice, and a huge exercise in time management.

The thing is, I am currently sitting around dreaming about what new kind of direction I could take my cartooning style. Best thing for me to do is grab samples of all my favorite work and have it handy while drawing. And then to also keep drawing from life, of course.

I suspect I will have more to share on this. Eventually.
